Whalemap Cookie Notice
Last updated: 20 October 2026.
This notice explains how 4F TECH LLC, trading as Whalemap (we, us, our), uses cookies and similar technologies on https://whalemap.io (the Site). Read it with our Privacy Policy, at https://whalemap.io/privacy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small files placed on a computer or mobile device by a website. They can help maintain sessions, remember preferences or measure usage. Some expire with a session; others persist until expiry or deletion. The Site also uses browser local storage, which persists separately from cookies.
Technologies used by Whalemap
| Category | Purpose | Provider | Current controls and limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication and security | Maintain authenticated sessions, verify sign-in and prevent abuse | Clerk; hosting/security infrastructure | Browser cookie controls; blocking these may prevent sign-in. Email authentication uses codes, never a Whalemap password. |
| Analytics and diagnostics | Measure page visits and interactions, identify errors and associate signed-in usage with an account | PostHog | New PostHog collection is currently disabled. Consent and withdrawal controls will be provided before enabling it where required. |
| Workspace functionality | Store chart workspaces, drawings and preferences locally | Whalemap browser local storage | Clear site storage in your browser; doing so removes local workspaces. |
| Optional Google sign-in | Authenticate with a Google account when you choose this method | Google and Clerk | Google Account/browser settings; email sign-in remains an alternative for eligible users. Google controls cookies used on its own authentication pages. |
Whalemap local-storage keys include whalemap.workspace.v1 (chart workspace), whalemap.palette.v1 (palette preferences) and hub-boards (saved board information). These remain until you clear them or the application replaces them; they do not have a browser-enforced expiry. Clerk manages authentication identifiers and session storage, whose duration depends on session and security settings. PostHog manages analytics identifiers if enabled with consent. Names can vary by provider configuration and browser. Server-side retention is described in the Privacy Policy.
We do not use advertising cookies or pixels, sell personal information, or use it to train AI models.
Other technologies
Browser web storage
The Site uses local storage for workspace configurations and preferences. PostHog may also use browser storage for analytics identifiers. Clearing local storage does not delete information already sent to Clerk or PostHog.
Session replay
PostHog previously could record page content and interactions, such as clicks, scrolls and pointer movement, to help diagnose usability problems. New collection is currently paused. Form inputs are configured to be masked, but all page text is not necessarily hidden. Signed-in analytics identify the user by Clerk ID, email and name. See the Privacy Policy for further details.
Network requests and email
Scripts can send analytics events and diagnostics without relying exclusively on cookies. Browser cookie blocking should not be described as a complete analytics opt-out. Clerk sends authentication and waitlist emails. Its delivery infrastructure processes email addresses and delivery status to send and troubleshoot these messages.
Your choices
Browser settings. Most browsers let you remove or block cookies and clear local storage. These controls can sign you out, stop sign-in working, or delete saved workspace data. Apply browser controls separately to each browser/device you use.
Google settings. You can revoke Whalemap's Google connection in your Google Account settings. This does not automatically delete your Whalemap account or information already received.
Contact. Send privacy or deletion requests to [email protected].
Optional tracking. New PostHog collection is currently disabled. Essential authentication, requested workspace storage and necessary security functions remain available. You may request deletion of analytics data already collected. Before re-enabling optional tracking, we will provide the relevant consent and withdrawal controls.
Changes and questions
We will update this notice when relevant technologies or practices change and provide additional notice or obtain consent where required. Contact [email protected] with questions.
